WIRED COMMUNICATIONS: Overview
Wired Communication refers to the the transmission of data over a wire-based communication technology. A wired communication system is based on several modules, enabling everything from protocol management to cable access. Some examples of wired systems are cable TV, ADSL - broadband  and fixed telephony - PSTN - Public Switched Telephone Network.

The communication network divides into three major subdivisions; Access, Metro and Core. The Access subdivision is made up of transport media and application devices that connect directly to the subscribers. The Metro subdivision provides routers, switches, gateways, servers, etc. Core subdivision consists of even higher speed transport media and application devices.
